The Hudson River School

Poetry by Emily Rose

Up the Erie Canal he came, Thomas Cole was inspired by the autumn leaves
Brush in hand, his artistic capability he frees
The application of European influence and Natures beauty produced pieces of art
This was where it began, The Hudson River School; this was the start
Attention to detail and depictions of harmony in nature
Painters such as Frederick Church painted New York acre by acre
Symbolic use of light and darkness and the use of panoramic views
Dark greens, light blues, pastels and vibrant hues
Jagged rocks, blighted trees
Mossy banks and winding streams
These painters established a tradition of landscape painting the United States
A beautiful perspective of nature depicted with paints is what this artistic movement illustrates
