“Surviving School” By Rebecca Bablin
Alarm rings 6 a.m.
Get out of bed
Just do it
Feet dragging across the rough oor To the endless closet all saying “Pick me! Pick me!”
Choose the one
One that is not the loudest but will get you
Through the day with the most comfort.
Hurrying not to miss the bus
Grab something to go.
On the bus
Sit down
Stare out the window
Prepare yourselffor the day
Arrive at school, walk down the long narrow hall
Smiling at your friends.
Open your locker as you look at each different
Picture or magnet- a new memory is thought of.
The warning bell rings
First period begins as you take your seat
Look awake and look like you know what you’re talking about. Only eight more periods to go.

“Survival Poem” By Kirsten Carroll
Dry and dusty weather
Whips at the face,
But there is
Nowhere to go.
Throat so dry,
Gasping for air.
Illusions of streams,
Fresh crystal blue water,
Are nothing but ickering images. Blazing hot rays shoot through the body, Causing sweat to glide off the skin
So monstrous,
Multiply by the second. The horizon seems endless, Never ending,
Hope fades before the eye. Staying alive is
Out of reach,
Survival appears Impossible.
So easily.
Thoughts of loved ones,
Memories,
A dose of reality snaps back into focus. Sand hills,
