People Driving Home

I drove on the highway
Entering the city and watching everyone else leave
I was on my own little adventure
I began to question if the people surrounding me were too
I imagined us all in a movie of our own
Each one unique, each person driving home

He's a lawyer on his way home to three kids
She just came back from family court
That couple went on a lunch date
Then walked around
Enjoying the city building reaching towards the blue sky
Watching all the cars and people pass them by
Now they are all people driving home

I sit there and wonder, as these questions fill my mind
Aren't we all just people on our way home?
Driving steadfastly towards the moments we want to last?
Are we all driving towards someone?
Driving towards eternity?
Driving towards our chapter's endings?
Driving to new beginnings?
Aren't we all just people driving home?
