The winners of the Voorheesville Short Story Contest have been announced! Judges Rone Shavers, Kenyatta JP Garcia, and Laurin Jefferson, all either professional writers or editors, made their announcement last week, capping off the contest which started with the initial announcement to students in January and ended with the March 1 entry deadline. Of the twenty stories that came in, ten were sent on by a committee of judges from Voorheesville (faculty and staff from Voorheesville Elementary School, Voorheesville Middle School, Clayton A. Bouton High School, and the District Office) to our professional judges. The winners are:
- $500 Grand Prize: senior Lindsey Odorizzi with her story, “The Guest Room.”
- $300 Second Prize: junior Erin Young with her story, “Palace Street, Westminster, London, SW1E 5BB”
- $100 Third Prize: senior Samantha Jasinski with her story, “Undead Trials”
- $50 Runner Up: junior Jilli Mitchell with her story, “Leaving Home”
- $50 Runner Up: junior Lily Burke with her story, “Lips are Chapped and Faded”
An awards ceremony is planned for May. The top three stories will appear in the Spring 2019 issue of the magazine, and all twenty entries will appear in special e-edition of the magazine. Both issues will be out in May!
