To a Father from a Daughter

Poetry by Brianna Dunn

If I could meet you,
I’d tell you that I hum when I get nervous,
I’d tell you that I doodle on every homework assignment
I’d even tell you that I spend most of my time screaming out song lyrics
And nobody enjoys it
You’d know that I absolutely despise mushrooms,
You’d know I couldn’t ride a bike until I was 10
You’d even know I’ve been vegetarian for 4 years
And everyone hates it
If you could meet me,
I’d know your face,
I’d know your voice
I’d even know your love
And everybody would see it
But
Most of all I’d want you to know of all the love I’ve experienced even when
I couldn’t meet you.
